EXP2 initial considerations of circulation and the building

I have chosen this form as the circulation for my school. The form connects the squarehouse to the block house and has an entrance from the ground plane in the clearing. The form allows space for the fig tree located near the squarehouse through the rectangular form on the left. The part overhanging the road has been made high enough such that it doesnt impede the new light rail. I connected these two buildings as I believe that the buildings used for learning and academia should remain separate from the lifestyle buildings (aquatic centre and gym, and the roundhouse).

The form also provides areas which would suit a moving element. The large rectangular block on the right faces towards the main walkway, and hence could showcase a provoking moving element to onlookers.

EXP 2 18 one point perspectives and render in context

Here are 18 one point perspectives. There are 6 original one point perspectives, each coming with an above and below view which comes from a shifted horizon line. Also attached is a rendered perspective shot of my chosen one point perspective in the unsw campus context near squarehouse. There are also images of this one point perspective not in context to view it in its entirety.

I have also attached some basic sketches from my site visit. One is a plan including trees and vegetation and the other is an elevation heading north.

General renders of finished model

These images are not part of my assessment submission.

However, I would like to post these photos to give a more cohesive presentation of the finalised model as only so much can be shown in a hero and detail shot.

Attached are also some animations that will not be assessed.

Hero shots and detail shots

Attached are the hero and detail shot for my EXP1 submission.

The first photo is the hero shot and the second photo is the detail shot.

This hero shot pictures the intricate Bernabei Freeman workshop facing towards the main exhibition area. This angle allows the workshop to look almost angelic with the winged helical staircases coming down to the datum space. Parts of the workshops carved roof and sides are also viewable, which frame the sky similar to the way that Bernabei Freeman lamp shades frame light from within. Beam supports below the building allow it to remain realistic and emphasise the curvaceous and visually appealing staircase. Also pictured is the bold overhanging structure which has been angled such that the workshop is pictured against the sky without interferance.

This detailed shot shows the main Auto Fabrica staircase within the main shell of the building, with mini workshops located just outside the large glass panels. The night time shot was used to show texture on the concrete steps but also to showcase the lit workshops which are all integrated into the grand scheme through the central staircase. Ramps weave between the outside and inside building, giving them a quasi-interior presence. In the background, relief is provided from a purely concrete scheme through the use of vegetation. Reflections off the large glass panels also allow for a glossy aesthetic that is found in Auto Fabricas products.

Animated Sections

These are my 3 sections which show key parts of my scheme of EXP1.

Animation 1 shows the interweaving bold staircase which connects the pod workshops that lay outside the main building. The animation pauses at the stair landings and workshops, showing how the ramps weave between the main staircase.

Animation 2 analyses the connections made between the intricate workshop and the ground plane, including the primary intricate staircase which is located at either side of the building with a wooden material. The animation also shows the ramps that connect the first and second floor of the workshop, as well as the supports that hold the building up.

Animation 3 is a plan view that depicts the lower layout of the below datum space. This clearly makes a connection to the original section drawing through the reception area and connecting walls. There are secondary stairs and ramps to bring occupants into the main area of the below datum space which would be used as an open area where meetings, discussion and general work would be carried out.

Attached are the sketches which helped in the development of the animations. There are also some analytical sketches which weren't developed into section animations

Materials

Here are some photos showing the clients work in their workshops and the materials that are involved in both workshops.

I chose to use my organic shapes texture in the intricate workshop to emphasise the organic shapes that are involved in the workshops form. The stairs, building, and secondary staircases connecting the levels all involve curved organic shapes to highlight the delicate and natural work of Bernabei Freeman. Therefore, it was sensible to use a material that reflected this.

For the bold workshop, I decided to use a more rectilinear and geometric material to both contrast the theme of the organic intricate workshop, and make the Auto Fabrica workshop distinctive in its dignified and solid appearance. Because of this, I used my 'rectilinear' texture. It also mimics the different thicknesses in elements (ie, the shell of the building and the concrete staircase which is thin in comparison).

For the facade of the Autofabrica workshop in the exhibition area, I used the 'conductive' texture. This texture portrays a circuit board-type aesthetic and aims to represent the company as a progressive and innovative company, reflected in the motorbikes that are showcased in front of the texture.

For the seat in the middle of the exhibition area, I used the 'bond' texture. The texture pictures two wings that meet at a single point. The texture was quite similar to the meeting of the contrasting intricate and bold in the architectural scheme, hence i used it in the exhibition space.

Here are some images of the textures within the scheme.

The following is a 10 second video that presents a shape similar to the spindle of the intricate staircase around the workshop building.
